New Research Summary Reveals Trane CleanEffects™ May Lower Risk of Serious Health Outcomes and Mortality Caused by Fine Particle Exposure Inside the Home.

A new health impact white paper conducted by scientists at Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (EH&E) in collaboration with professors at the Harvard School of Public Health shows that Trane CleanEffects™, a whole-house air cleaner, may help you prevent asthma attack, stroke, heart attack, respiratory disease and other serious illnesses as part of an overall prevention plan.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Lung Association (ALA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) all agree that exposure to fine particles impairs breathing and increases the risk of asthma attack, heart attack and other serious illnesses. According to EPA estimates, exposure to fine particles contributes to 17,000 premature deaths and more than 12,000 hospitalizations in the United States each year.

Airborne fine particles that can cause negative health issues enter your home through doors, windows or small openings in frames, walls and the roof. Particles originate from various outside sources including fossil fuel burning in vehicles, power and manufacturing plants, and fires; and inside from activities such as smoking or cooking. Due to their microscopic size, these particles are easily inhaled and deposit deep within the lungs.

“Through third-party studies, Trane CleanEffects has been proven to be the best whole-house air cleaner at removing fine particles. This is important because fine particles can cause cardiovascular health issues due to the fact that your nose and mouth cannot filter them, and they get trapped deep in your lungs. This research provides consumers with important information that may help lower the risk of cardiovascular health issues,” said Mark Hagan, systems marketing manager for indoor air quality at Trane.

According to the EH&E white paper, use of a whole-house air cleaner, such as Trane CleanEffects, may lower the risk of serious health outcomes and mortality caused by fine particle exposure by 34 percent compared with the use of a standard 1-inch filter. Trane CleanEffects performed best at removing fine particles (down to .1 microns) from the filtered air and had the highest clean air delivery rate when compared to other portable or whole-house air cleaners. “By removing the vast majority of particles through a Trane CleanEffects system, the average airborne concentration in the home is reduced, thereby lowering the exposure to harmful fine particles,” said Dr. David MacIntosh, instructor at the Harvard Extension School, and principal scientist at EH&E. 

Trane CleanEffects utilizes patented breakthrough air-cleaning technology to eliminate allergens and particles you don’t want in your home, such as dust, pollen, bacteria, pet dander, mold spores, smoke and the common flu virus. It removes particles as small as .1 microns, or 1/1,000th the diameter of a human hair – the size that eludes most air cleaners.
